SRINAGAR, June 30 (1996): A fire broke out on Sunday near Kashmir's biggest mosque, the 600-year-old Jama Masjid, triggering protest demonstrations, police said. They said a deranged person apparently lit a fire near the mosque to warm himself. The flames damaged the eastern gate to the structure, which is in the summer capital of India's Jammu and Kashmir state, Srinagar.
