9 Youth Reach Pahalgam For ‘Recreation’, Unfurl Pakistani Flag, Arrested

Srinagar: J&K Police on Monday arrested at least nine boys after they allegedly unfurled a Pakistani flag at the tourist resort of Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district.

Police sources told news agency CNS that a group of nine boys from Budgam and Pulwama district arrived in Pahalgam for “recreation”. Sources added that the group of boys attracted the attention of the crowd when they waved a Pakistani green flag.

As the news spread, a police team arrived on the spot and arrested 9 boys, one of them hails from Pulwama while rest are from Bandarpora village of Budgam district.

Police sources identified the arrested youth as Adil Ahmad, Mayeen Ahmad, Muhammad Israr, Aqib Ahmad, Javaid Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad, Suhail Ahmad, Abdul Wahid and Muhammad Abbas.

A Police official from Budgam district confirmed that they received a call from Pahalgam Police Station about the arrest of these youth.

When contacted, Station Head Officer Pahalgam declined to comment on the issue saying that only SSP Islamabad is authorized to speak on it.

Efforts to contact the officials didn’t materialize.
