Slapped with PSA, Asiya Andrabi Hospitalised In PCR: DeM

Srinagar: The chief of Dukhtaran-i-Millat (DeM), Asiya Andrabi, has been admitted in Police Control Room (PCR) hospital in Srinagar.

Slapped with the Public Safety Act (PSA) – termed as draconian by Amnesty International (AI) – Andrabi was lodged in the Women’s Police Station Rambagh, before being taken to PCR for medical checkup on Monday.

“The government has slapped Asiya Andrabi and her aide, Fehmeeda Sofi, with lawless PSA,” DeM General Secretary, Nahida Nasreen, told the FPK over the phone.

Andrabi and Sofi were arrested last month and were subsequently lodged in the Women’s Police Station Rambagh.

“The government has ordered their lodgment in Kotbalwal Jail Jammu,” Nasreen said. “We are yet to receive the dossier to know in which act they have been booked under.”

She added, “when Andrabi was taken to PCR Hospital, doctors admitted and put her on oxygen. Her condition was critical.”

Andrabi and Sofi, the DeM office bearer said, were supposed to be shifted to Kotbalwal Jail Monday evening. “The duo was taken for medical checkup around 7 PM yesterday but because health condition of Andrabi was bad, she continues to remain admitted in the PCR hospital.”
