Pak Man Trained To Fight in Kashmir, Flees To Afghanistan, Charged For ‘Terror’ In Germany

Srinagar: A Pakistani man is being prosecuted in Germany for alleged terror charges. He is said to have been trained “to fight alongside Jihadis in Kashmir”.

Alleged to be a recruit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit, Muhammad Aafaq I., had fled to war-torn Afghanistan after being trained in Pakistan to “fight Indian forces in Kashmir”.

A news report in Dawn.com said that German prosecutors charged the 28-year-old Pakistani man with membership of a “terrorist organisation”. However, it was not revealed as how Aafaq reached Germany if he crossed over to Afghanistan from Pakistan in 2011.

Quoting German federal prosecutor’s office, the report added that Muhammad Aafaq I., whose last name wasn’t given in accordance with privacy regulations, joined the LeT in 2008 “to fight against Indian rule over the Himalayan region”.

Prosecutors alleged that he was trained with the group in Pakistan, learning to use weapons like assault rifles and rocket launchers before becoming a trainer of new recruits.

They claimed that he fled the group in 2011 and was fighting with the Taliban in Afghanistan, “contradictory to his motivation”.

LeT, it may be noted, operates in Kashmir with recruits from Pakistan and Kashmir too has been allegedly involved in many attacks on armed forces here.
