Bullet riddled body of ex-militant found in Pulwama, family ‘refuses’ relief

“We sent a team of doctors accompanied by cops, who were in civvies in an ambulance (to Gudoora) but the family did not allow them to do post-mortem”

Srinagar: A bullet ridden body of an ex-militant was found in a local rivulet in the restive Pulwama district of Kashmir, the police confirmed on Friday.

A police official based in Pulwama district while speaking to the FreePress Kashmir identified the deceased as Mohammad Yousuf Lone, son of Sonaullah Lone, a resident of Gudoora area of the district. He was 45 years old.

“The body had bullet marks,” the police official said.

“Lone was a released militant who was handicapped as his left hand was damaged in a grenade blast when he was a militant,” he added.

Reports coming from the native village of the deceased said that as soon as the news spread in the area that Lone was found dead, pro-freedom demonstrations started.

Police have registered an FIR and started investigations under 302, 7/27 arms act of RPC.

Police tried to perform the post-mortem of slain person “however, the family refused”.

“We sent a team of doctors accompanied by cops, who were in civvies in an ambulance (to Gudoora), but the family did not allow them to do post-mortem,” the police official informed.

“The family even said that they won’t claim any relief (from the government).”

The official further informed, “The family members told us that Lone received a phone call around 09:30 pm yesterday and he instantly left home. Since then they had no information about his whereabouts.”

During his funeral, the local populace raised intense pro-freedom and anti-India slogans while he was being lowered in his grave.

Of late, Kashmir valley is again witnessing killings by “unknown gun men”, however, both government and resistance leadership has been condemning such acts.

J&K Police issued a statement later in the day about the incident which is being reproduced verbatim for larger public interest.
