Srinagar: The J&K government, on Saturday, shut its Degree colleges in Srinagar and students have been asked to leave for their respective homes.
The step was taken in view of the tense situation prevailing across Kashmir Valley following the killing of two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants in Tral early Saturday. The slain militants include Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, a trusted aide of popular Hizb commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani whose death triggered massive anti-India uprising last year.
A student from Government run SP College said that the authorities directed them to leave for their homes as “situation was not favourable”.
It may be recalled, the students from the colleges based in Srinagar have been holding massive anti-India protests ever since Indian army men forcibly entered Degree College Pulwama on April 15, 2017 resulting in clashes and injuries to many students.
Similar directions were issued in Government Women’s College MA Road where female students were asked to “leave the campus for their safety”.
Eye witnesses said that students of Amar Singh College and Government Polytechnic in Srinagar also held anti-India protests.
Meanwhile, clashes intensified in Tral and many civilians were injured following the death of two local militants.
Sabzar and Faizan were residents of main town Tral.
“Scores of youth in Rathsuna area were injured. Many of them are grievously injured,” locals said.
In Anantnag, a cop from the police zone said, several youth were injured during clashes with forces.
“Protests erupted in Mattan, Khanbal, near DC Office, Lal Chowk,” he said. “And at last six youth were injured who are being treated at local health facilities.”
Reports coming from Old Srinagar said that the area is witnessing shutdown.
