KU exams scheduled for May 29, 30 cancelled; Sainik School releases selection list of new admissions

‘J&K Sainik School Manasbal released the list of selected students for new admissions in classes 6th and 9th for 2017-18 session’

Srinagar: Following the shutdown call by joint resistance leadership, the University of Kashmir (KU) has cancelled the examination scheduled for May 29 and 30.

In protest to the killing of top Hizb ul Mujahideen leader, Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, and his aide, Faizan Muzaffar Bhat, the joint resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik called for shutdown in Kashmir on Sunday and Monday while as people have been asked to march towards Tral –the home town of slain militants – on Tuesday.

The Kashmir valley observed a spontaneous shutdown on Saturday and the situation is tense across Kashmir valley as one civilian was killed during protests in forces action in Tral yesterday. Seven others were hit by bullets while as 60 other civilians were injured across South Kashmir during protests following the death of Sabzar and Faizan.

The Kashmir University has postponed exams scheduled to be held on next two days.

In a statement, the KU spokesperson said, in view of concerns expressed by students due to prevailing circumstances, all Kashmir University examinations scheduled to be held on May 29, 2017 (Monday) and May 30, 2017 (Tuesday) are postponed.

The spokesperson said that fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately, later.

Meanwhile, J&K Sainik School Manasbal released the list of selected students for new admissions in classes 6th and 9th for 2017-18 session.

“Pursuant to the approval by the competent authority, it is notified for the information of all concerned that the candidates bearing following Roll No’s have been provisionally selected for admission, subject to being medically fit and fulfilling the age eligibility criteria, into class VI (81 candidates) and class IX (30 candidates) in session 2017-18,” a statement issued the by the boarding school said.

The candidates for admission to class sixth and ninth had appeared in entrance examination in March this year.
