Porter killed in Keran: Army

Srinagar: Army on Sunday alleged that a civilian porter was killed in cross-border firing by soldiers of Pakistan army in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir along Line of Control (LoC).

The Indian army said that Pakistan troopers posted along LoC allegedly violated the ceasefire along the LoC.

“Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Keran sector Saturday by resorting to unprovoked firing, resulting in death of one army porter and injuries to another,” an Army official told a news agency.

Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Col Rajesh Kali, told the FreePressKashmir that two civilian porters were hit by “ammunition hit by forces posted across the LoC”. “One porter died and another one was injured,” he informed.

Early in the day, the army official claimed that an alleged intruder was killed along the LoC in Poonch district of J&K.

“One intruder from PoK successfully killed in a Ambush at about 0230 hours yesterday night on LoC in KG Sector , body of intruder recovered,” Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta, Defense Spokesperson based in Udhampur said referring to “infiltration from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK)”.

The army said that the body of the slain porter was retrieved and handed over to his kin for last rites while the injured was taken to a medical facility.

According to the Army, Sunday morning’s operation was the second biggest alleged infiltration attempt foiled in the last one week.

An ambush was carried out in the early morning by the troops of the Sikh Battalion after receiving intelligence inputs. A search operation is being carried out presently.

Earlier on Friday, the army said that two alleged members of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) were killed by the Army in Uri sector.

Last week, the Army had also killed four infiltrators in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district.
