Srinagar: J&K Police on Sunday said that the situation across Kashmir Valley remained “peaceful” and is “under control”.
The authorities had to impose curfew at many places including summer capital and strict restrictions at many other places to prevent people from coming out on road against killing of top Hizb ul Mujahideen commander, Sabzar Ahmad Bhat.
Sabzar, a trusted lieutenant of slain militant commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani, died fighting forces in Saimoo village of Tral along with a 15-year-old aide, Faizan Muzaffar Bhat. Situation turned violet as the news about Sabzar’s death spread across Valley.
“Except for six incidents of stone pelting in Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Sopore, situation across the valley remained peaceful and under control till filing of this report,” JKP spokesperson said in a statement this evening.
One civilian was killed in forces action while as seven others were hit by bullets among 60 others injured yesterday during protests.
“In order to create disturbances, miscreants at these places assembled on roads and pelted stones on police and security forces deployment and also on the vehicular traffic. In Pulwama, a group of miscreants also pelted stones on 182 CRPF Camp at Tahab,” the police spokesperson said.
“Police and security forces used maximum restraint while dealing with the situation at these places and miscreants were chased away.”
“As a precautionary measure, restrictions under section 144 CrPC were imposed in some vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incident,” the spokesperson added.
