We are disturbed, have not established contact with him yet: family
Srinagar: A Srinagar youth who was deported from Turkey on May 25th had fled home due to a minor domestic issue and not to join the so-called Islamic State (IS), police officials said.
Afshan Pervaz is a 21-year-old youth from Downtown Srinagar. His family house is situated in a Khanyar alley in the Old Srinagar.
On Tuesday, several Indian media houses reported that Afshan had flown to Turkey to cross over to Syria to join the IS – the terror group notorious for its inhuman activities.
However, J&K police officials told the FreePressKashmir that Afshan had a minor fight with his father following which he decided to go abroad.
“He is a normal Kashmiri youth,” SHO Batamaloo, Parvez Ahmad, said. “There is no IS connection in this case.”
Afshan, son of a business family which resides in Khanyar, was reported missing from Batamaloo area of summer capital Srinagar following which his family filed a missing report in Police Station Batamaloo and investigations started.
“Afshan had some fight with his family members,” the JKP cop informed adding, “Following the verbal dual with his father, he flew abroad. His is a normal case.”
On the pretext of pursuing higher education, Afshan told his family that he will be moving to Iran. And on March 23, he booked a flight to Tehran – the capital city of Iran.
However, Afshan contacted his home soon and told his family that he was facing some “difficulties”.
Soon after his family contacted J&K Police, the cops contacted the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, which in turn got in touch with Iranian authorities.
However, Afshan had already travelled to Turkey and was living in Ankara – its capital city.
The probe in to the activities of Afshan led J&K Police to reach Turkey officials who finally “detained
him when he was travelling in a bus in Ankara.
And on May 25, Turkish authorities “deported” Afshan to New Delhi where he was taken in to custody and is reportedly undergoing investigation.
The FreePressKashmir got in touch with the family of Afshan which is yet to come out of the agony following their son’s “deportation” from Turkey.
“Afshan is a student who had a fight at home and he flew to Iran,” one of his relatives said. “We are perturbed a lot after following the news reports (about their son).”
The relative, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “J&K Police have all the details about Afshan. All these days since March 23, he has been spending from his own pocket. There is no question that he received help of anyone else.”
The relative, who appeared to be perturbed, did not share much detail. “We have not contacted Afshan yet,” he said.
