Qazigund Attack: One Army man killed, five others injured

Srinagar: One Indian army personnel was killed while five others were injured in an attack by suspected militants in Anantnag district on Saturday.

Police said that gun fire shots were heard near Toll Plaza in Qazigund while an army convoy was on way to Kashmir from Jammu. After the attack, the convoy suddenly came to a grinding halt.

The attack took place while Indian Army chief along with his seven top commanders are in Valley where they held security review meet.

Gen Bipin Rawat also met J&K Governor, N N Vohra yesterday evening at Raj Bhawan.

Meanwhile, the borders in Jammu and Kashmir have heated up as cross-border shelling by Indian and Pakistani troops continues in Krishna Ghati Sector in Poonch.

The injured army personnel were rushed to army’s sector-2 headquarter located in Qazigund area.

Hundreds of forces personnel from army, J&K Police and para-military CRPF have been rushed to the area who are conducting massive searches.
