Indo-Pak DGMOs open communication lines, discuss LoC Situation; ‘Peace’ bus plies normally

Srinagar: After days of tensions which resulted in civilian killings across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the director generals of military operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on Monday opened the communication lines.

At least four civilians were killed and several others injured in firing across the de fact border by Indian and Pakistani soldiers positioned along LoC.

Talking over the hotline between the two countries, the DGMO of the Indian Army conveyed to his Pakistani counterpart India’s commitment towards ensuring peace and tranquility on the LoC.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan army’s media wing ISPR statement, the Pakistan director general military operations (DGMO) told his Indian counterpart that the killing of innocent civilians and labelling ‘inadvertent crossers’ as infiltrators is “highly unprofessional”.

The Pakistan Army DGMO asked the Indian command for “actionable evidence regarding alleged infiltration and also to look inwards for correct identification of the issue”.

Pakistan Army is committed to maintaining peace along the LoC, the ISPR said.

“However, any Indian misadventure from across/along the LoC in any form shall be responded with full force at the time and place of our choosing with the onus of responsibility on Indian aggressive behaviour,” read the statement.

On the other side, the ‘Karvaan-e-Aman’ – peace – bus service plied normally between the divided Jammu and Kashmiri from Uri crossing point.

The LoC tensions had resulted in suspension of the bus service last week after authorities across the LoC did not turn up to receive passengers from this side.

“The bus plied normally today,” an official at the Trade Facilitation Centre Salamabad said.

Today, 27 passengers crossed over to Muzaffarabad out of which 25 were returnees while 17 passengers came over from Muzaffarbad out of which 7 were returning and 10 were fresh.
