Suspected militants ‘attack’ CRPF camp in Sumbal; police officials rush to spot

Srinagar: In a suspected militant attack, a para-military CRPF camp was attacked in Bandipora district around 4:30 am on Monday.

A J&K Police official told the FreePressKashmir that 45th battalion of CRPF which is stationed in industrial estate came under fire.

However, he asserted, “there is no report of any attack yet.”

“There has been firing on the camp but no casualties have been reported,” he added.

Further, the official said that police officers have rushed to the area and are assessing the situation.

Sharing details, a youth from Sumbal told the FreePressKashmir that firing started around half an hour ago at 4: 30 am and stopped soon. “But now it has again started scaring the people,” the youth, who recently graduated as an engineering student, said asserting to remain anonymous.

“Winds are blowing while electricity has been snapped,” he said.

While the faithful had just finished Sehri (pre-dawn meals) as Muslims across world are observing fast during holy Ramzan, he said, “the firing creating panic with Muslims rushing to their homes soon after Fajr namaz.”

He added that additional armed forces are being rushed to the spot. “We can hear vehicles carrying army and other forces agencies plying on roads,” he said, “it seems whole area has been cordoned off.”
