BJP’s ‘beef’ with momos: Lawmaker wants it banned as it causes cancer, converts headache into migraine

Jammu: After beef, looks like momos, a street delicacy is next on the ban list of the present dispensation.

A Bhartiya Janata Party lawmaker from Jammu has been demanding a ban on the dumplings as it is cheap street food, contains carcinogenic monosodium glutamate and is invented, according to him, in Nepal!

Legislator Ramesh Arora believes, “Momos have been found to be the root cause of several life-threatening diseases, including cancer of the intestine.”

He has been seeking a ban on Momos from the past five months.

Arora is not eying only momos, but he wants everyone to stop eating ‘cancer-causing’ Chinese food as he believes that it’s laced with a salt Ajinomoto which causes the deadly disease.

“Ajinomoto, a kind of salt, causes serious diseases, including cancer. It is responsible for converting a minor headache into migraine,” said Arora.

The BJP lawmaker also believes that regular consumption of the salt is more harmful than psychotropic drugs.

“Besides memory loss, regular consumption for two to three years causes cancer of the stomach. They are found to be more harmful than alcohol and psychotropic drugs,” he said.

In this regard he even met the heath minister Bali Baghat to stop the sale of Chinese street food.

MoS Jitendra Singh enjoying momos recently at an event.

However, recently Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office from J&K, was seen relishing momos at a function recently.

“Momo is a killer and we cannot allow a killer to grow in a civilized society. Ajinomoto is dangerous for health.”Arora is also concerned that the ‘cancer causing’ food is being sold by ‘Burmese and Bangladeshis’.

Now is monosodium glutamate safe or not?

Research shows that only 8 countries out of 26 countries which use the salt extensively have banned its usage.

Also, America’s Food and Drug Administration has said that the salt is generally safe.
