Civilian injured in suspected militant attack on ITBP convoy in Anantnag

Srinagar: A civilian was injured in a suspected militant attack on a convoy of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Saturday morning.

Militants opened fire on the convoy in Anantnag district when a youth was hit by a bullet.

The convoy came under fire in Vessu village of Qazigund district.

The youth has been identified as Arif Dar, a resident of Anantnag.

Dar was rushed to a hospital from where he was referred to a Srinagar hospital in critical condition.

Hundreds of armed personnel from Indian army, JK Police and para-military CRPF have been rushed to the area who have launched a mna hunt.

Soon after the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police issued a statement which is being reproduced here verbatim for larger public interest

Today one Mr Arif, a resident of Bakshiabad, Anantnag who is working in  a construction company at Banihal reported at Public Health Centre Vesu that at around 5 in the morning when he was on way to Banihal at Vessu (when) unknown militants fired upon the two security force vehicles which were moving  ahead of his car No. JK02BJ-6600.

The fire missed the target and hit his car and he was injured in the back.

Though  he is stable so far he has been referred to SMHS (Hospital), Srinagar for specialised treatment.

About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot.

A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up.

The early morning attack on the Indian troops in Anantnag is second in this month. On June 03, suspected militants attacked an Indian army convoy which was on its way to Kashmir from Jammu.

Two Indian army men were killed while four others got injured. The militants, however, escaped the spot unhurt.

The attack took place near Lower Munda Toll Plaza, Qazigund.
