Srinagar: Pakistan on Monday claimed that two civilians were killed after the Indian troops stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir allegedly violated the ceasefire and fired mortars across the de facto border.

The officials of the Pakistani army said that two teenagers were killed due to unprovoked firing along the LoC in Jandrot and Hot Spring sector.

The deceased have been identified as Waqar Younus (18) and Asad Ali (19).

They lived in Bhabra village of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK).

The fresh ceasefire violation happened two days after Pakistan army chief, gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, visited LoC in PaK and interacted with his soldiers.

The officials added that three other civilians were injured who were identified as Muhammad Shahbaz (30), Shumaila Khurshid (35) and Hafsa Shabbir (14).

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Director General (SA & SAARC), Dr Mohammad Faisal, called upon the Indian deputy High Commissioner, J P Singh today.

“The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws,” he said.

Pakistan and India have been alleging ceasefire violations along the LoC.

The two countries signed a truce agreement in 2003 which is still in place, however, the two-nuclear armed nations have been accusing each other of unprovoked firing across the line thus causing damage.

Dr Faisal condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations allegedly by the Indian forces in Chirikot and Hot Spring Sectors on 10 and 12 June, 2017, respectively.

The Director-General urged the Indian side to abide by the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, “investigate ceasefire violation incidents, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC”.
