Alleged suicide case: Mudasir’s Body fished out from Jhelum in Bandipora

Srinagar: Fifty days after her alleged suicide, 37-year-old mother of a lone child, Mudasir Javid’s body was fished out by the police in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Bandipora is 45 kilometres in north of Srinagar – the summer capital of J&K.

She had allegedly jumped into river Jehlum from Srinagar’s old Zainakadal Bridge on May 5 this year.

The police on Friday said that Mudasir’s body has  been fished out by their team at 11 am after it was reportedly seen floating by the locals in Sumbal area.

According to the police, a team was sent to the spot after the locals informed them about the floating body in river Jhelum at Paribal in between Sumbal and Hajin.

A police official at M R Gunj Police Station told the FreePressKashmir that Mudasir’s case with an FIR No. 29-2017 has been taken over by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) “that includes DIG and Dy SP, who are investigating the case”.

“Yes, the body has been fished out. The family has identified her. It is in Sumbal (sub-district) Hospital and will be sent for a post-mortem to Pantha Chowk or Police Control Room after which it will be handed over to the family,” said the the police official.

Mudasir’s cousin also confirmed that her body has been fished out.

He said that the family continues to mourn the death of their daughter “whose body has been sent to PanthaChowk for its post-mortem”.

“All the relatives are there. After the post-mortem, they will bring her (Mudasir’s body) home,” he said.

Though the officials concerned could not be contacted at the moment, the police official said that Mudasir’s body was the “missing key clue” in the investigation of the case in which her in-laws alleged that she had committed suicide whereas her maternal family alleged that “either she was forced to do so or she was murdered by her in-laws”.

Mudasir, daughter of Abdul Aziz Butta and Begum Syeda, residents of Pirbagh, Srinagar, was born on January 24th, 1980.

She secured her MTech degree from the University of Kashmir where she topped in amongst her batch mates.

After graduating, she started her career as a junior engineer in the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, J&K Government.

In 2012, Mudasir had tied a nuptial knot with a distant relative Javid Ahmad who owns his business here and would often stay in Dubai.

They were blessed with a son who they named Hamid. They lived together for 5 years.

According to her family, Mudasir had complained about the way her in-laws treated her several times.
