Yatra being facilitated in Muslim dominated J&K: Geelani, slams govt for siege on Juma’at-ul-Vida

Syed Ali Geelani, All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairperson, who is under house continuous detention at Hyderpora.

Srinagar: Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani on Friday denounced sealing of Jamia Masjid, laying restrictions and placing resistance leadership under house arrest.

“It is unacceptable and unjustified,” Geelani said. “The local administration is practically non-existent while as those sitting in Nagpur rule the roost.”

Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest for past several years at his Hyderpora residence, blamed authorities for “waging war against people”.

Strongly criticizing unjustified house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Mohamad Ashraf Laya, the ailign Hurriyat Conference chief said that they are continuously being put under house arrest by authorities and bared from offering their religious obligations.

Criticizing the state administration for their “double dealing and fascist mindset”, Geelani said, “on one hand, huge expenses are being incurred and special provisions are being made to facilitate (Amarnath) yatra and on the other (hand), restrictions and curfew like restrictions are imposed and people barred from offering prayers even on Juma’at-ul-Vida.”

“A particular band of administration in New Delhi representing Hindu radicals is desperate to letdown the sentiments and disrespect the religious faith of people in Muslim dominated state,” he observed.

Referring to Youm-ul-Quds and Youm-e-Kashmir, the octogenarian Hurriyat Conference chairperson said, “both Kashmir and Palestine were forcibly occupied by tyrant forces. Zionists forces in Palestine and Gaw Rakshaks and Hindu fascist elements in Kashmir are carrying genocide of innocent people in a methodical manner.”

Deploring international community for their criminal silence about “troublesome situations and pathetic condition” in Jammu & Kashmir, Geelani said that they are not taking any serious and sincere steps, instead relying on mere lip service.

He demanded immediate release of all detainees before Eid-ul-Fitr. “Hundreds of leaders and activists have been lodged in far-flung areas of Jammu.”

Terming the approach of authorities as “sheer extremism”, Geelani further said that infamous Public Safety Act (PSA) is being repeatedly slapped on political activists.

Referring to continuous detention of Masarat Aalam Bhat, Dr Gh Mohammad Bhat, Mohammad Rustum Bhat, Syedah Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi, Ameer-e-Hamza Shah, Mir Hafiz Ullah, Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Raies Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Shaban Dar, Mohammad Yusuf Lone, Ab Gani Bhat, Danish Malik, Mushtaq Ahmad Hurra, Mohammad Rafiq Ganai, Showkat Ahmad Hakim, Tariq Ahmad Ganai, Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, Mohammad Yusuf Makroo, Mohammad Amin Ahangar, Ab Hamid Parray, Sarjan Barkati, Mohammad Shafi Wagay, Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday, Showkat Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi Khan, Assad Ullah Parray, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, Salman Yusuf, Mufti Abdul Ahad, Gh Hassan Shah, Hakim-ur-Rehman, Manzoor Ahmad Kaloo, Gh Mohammad Tantray, Parvez Ahmad Kaloo, Ab Khaliq Regu, Ab Aziz Ganai, Gh Hassan Malik, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Beg, Mohammad Ramzan Mir, Siraj-ud-Din, Mohammad Sideeq, Safeer Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Dar, Shakil Ahmad Yatoo, Javed Ahmad Filey, Nazir Ahmad Mantoo, Mufti Nadeem, Mohammad Amin Parray, Mohammad Amin Ahangar, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Meraj-ud-Din Nanda and scores of others, Syed Ali Geelani said that for long these prisoners are languishing in different jails.

“In most of cases the detainees were bailed out and their dossiers were quashed by judiciary, however, authorities instead of honoring court orders are ignoring all norms and rules, hence detainees are not released and slapped with PSA to prolong their detention,” he informed.

“Many detainees, though no charge sheet filed against them, are languishing in jails for long under the lame excuse of preventive custody,” said Geelani.

Meanwhile, the Hurriyat Conference statement said that Syed Ali Geelani expressed deep grief over the demise of the mother Mass Movement chairman Fareeda Behan Ji and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

While paying tributes to departed soul, Geelani extended his condolences and sympathy with bereaved family and said that she was a devout lady and her sacrifices for freedom movement are praiseworthy.
