First batch of Amaranth Yatra 2017 flagged off from Lakhanpur

Srinagar: Minister for Forests, Environment & Ecology Choudhary Lal Singh on Tuesday flagged off the first batch of pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra from Lakhanpur.

District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar, besides other senior officers of civil administration and police were present at the flagging off ceremony, an official spokesperson said.

While interacting with the pilgrims, Lal Singh said that government has made adequate arrangements for smooth conduct of the Yatra right from Lakhanpur to Amaranth Cave Shrine.

He said the state is fully geared up to provide foolproof security to the yatries besides facilities like drinking water, medicare, and electricity at base camps from lakahnpur to cave shrine.

The Minister sought public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness on Yatra route by avoiding plastic bags. He also made an appeal to the people to undertake yatra only after proper medical checkup and registration.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar said that district administration has made adequate arrangements for yatra and teams of civil and police department shall work round the clock for convenience of the yatries.

He said special team have been constituted to monitor quality and hygiene at and around langar sites, besides checking the rates and quality of food items at important halt points

SSP Kathua Suleman Choudhary, CEO LSDA, ACR Kathua, officers of various departments and prominent citizens in large number were also present on the occasion.
