Burhan’s Anniversary: police summon Burhan’s father

Kashmir: Police on Tuesday summoned the late Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant commander Burhan Wani’s father Muzaffar Wani, ahead of his son’s first death anniversary.

He was summoned to a local police station. A police official said they are carrying out preventive detentions across the valley to avoid any disturbance in the peace.

According to reports, he was summoned to police station Tral, where he was asked if he had any plans for July 8.

Wani, according to reports, replied that he had no such plan himself but if the youth wanted to hold protests or rallies, he couldn’t stop them. After questioning, he was allowed to go.

Superintendent of police Awantipora Zahid Malik denied that Burhan’s father was summoned. “He was just passing through the police station and the concerned SHO only had a conversation with him for a few moments,” he claimed.

The police are starting “preventive detentions” across Kashmir to “avoid any breach of peace”.

Inspector general of police, Muneer Ahmad Khan said. “A lot of preparations are in way to make sure that the peace is maintained”. In the backdrop of such directions, police have started to call youth to police stations. “Those who do not report would be arrested”, he added.
