Amid undeclared curfew, clashes erupt in Tral, dozen injured in Shopian

Burhan’s father, according to the people present there, had erected a tent for the prayers. He was told by the forces to remove it within five minutes. However people refused and the forces asked them to vacate the house.

This angered the youth and clashes erupted between them and the government forces. According to reports, six youth were also detained by the police.

Meanwhile, in from Charsoo village of Awantipora, according to reports, clashes erupted between youth and forces as they tried to march towards Tral. The police and paramilitaries fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters.

In Bongam area of Shopian, forces fired pellets injuring at least a dozen people including nine woman. The government forces swung into action when pro-freedom slogans were played from the loud speaker off a local mosque.

Hurriyat leaders have given a shutdown call to mark the anniversary. Shops, schools, government offices are shut. Roads are deserted.

Burhan Wani, commander of militant group Hizbul Mujahideen, was killed along with two associates Sartaj Ahamd and Pervez Ahmad  in a gun fight in Bemdoora village of Kokernag in Islamabad district in Southern part of Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile, internet services remain suspended in Kashmir from the past two days. The decision of suspending internet has drawn criticism even from former chief minister Omar Abdullah.
