CRPF troopers allegedly beat up driver, triggers protests, massive traffic jam

Srinagar: Thousands of vehicles were stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway from Sempora to Pantha Chowk area here on Saturday due to a protest against the thrashing of a driver allegedly by the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers.

According to reports, “The CRPF personnel deployed at the bridge signalled a passenger vehicle driver to stop his vehicle. The driver stopped, however, a few metres ahead.

Apparently, this infuriated the CRPF who ended up beating him.

Reports said that “troopers thrashed a driver after he was signaled to stop his vehicle on the highway in Pantha Chowk.

The reports further added that the driver parked his vehicle on the road to protest against the CRPF men.

“Hundreds of people, including drivers and commuters, joined the protest soon,” the reports mentioned.

This triggered a massive traffic jam on the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.
