Killing 60 year old Ganaie proves forces can kill Kashmiris at will: Jama’at

Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islamia, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, condemned the killing of Mohammad Abdullah Ganaie from Hussanpora-Bagh Bijbehara by the Indian Armed Forces, when army soldiers fired at a crowd in the town on Monday afternoon.

The organisation’s stated position on the Kashmir conflict is that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and the issue must be sorted as per UN or through tripartite talks between India and Pakistan and the real representatives of J&K (Pro-Independence).

Abdullah was killed by a patrolling party of the Indian army at Bijbehara when a group of civilians objected to the ruthless beating of a youth.

According to locals, army soldiers were beating a youth Mudassir Ahmad Mantoo who had overtaken army vehicles with his motorcycle.

Locals said that army soldiers fired several bullets at civilians in the main Goriwan market of Bijbehara town.
A senior doctor at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) said that the elderly person had received a bullet in his upper thigh and apparently died because of excessive blood loss.

“One of the army men fired at said Mohammad Abdullah Ganaie without any justification seriously injuring him. He was taken to Soura institute where he breathed his last yesterday evening. Thousands of people participated in his janaza (funeral),” a statement from the Jamaat spokesperson said.

“This tragic and horrific incident clearly proves that Indian forces have got free license to kill any Kashmiri at their will as there is no fear of accountability for them,” he added.

Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir vehemently denouncing this tragic incident, asked “the international human rights bodies to take note of this ‘state-sponsored terrorism’ and take effective measures to stop this hegemonic misrule of Indian forces.”
