People in bulk attended the funeral procession of slain Abid in Hajin

Srinagar: The slain Laskhar-e-Taiba militant’s funeral received a huge crowd of people in Amargarh area of Sopore on Saturday early morning.

As soon as the body of Abid Hamid Mir arrived, thousands of people participated in funeral procession.

People from Hajin and adjacent villages Sumbal, Naidkhai, Shahgund, Vijpapra, Madvan, Preng, Ajas, Saidunara, Hakbari, Saderkoot rushed to participate in the funeral procession. Abid was laid to rest in local martyrs’ graveyard near Jamia Masjid Hajin.

He was a B. Com student of Islamia Collage of Science and Commerce in Srinagar.

Three LeT militants were killed in an encounter with Indian Armed Forces in Amargrah area of Sopore on Saturday morning.

The killings led to protests in various parts of northern Kashmir. Authorities suspended internet services at some places in Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts, while strict restrictions were imposed in Baramulla town.

Schools and colleges have also been shut for the day by the authorities fearing protests.
