Kashmir valley shuts down against abrogation of Article 35-A

Srinagar: Kashmir valley is observing a complete should down against the abrogation of Article 35-A, which defines who is a state subject and confers special rights to them.

In the summer capital Srinagar, all business establishments, shops and schools are shut and no public transport is plying on the roads. Places like the Qammarwari Chowk and the Karanagar-Batmaloo crossing which witnesses heavy traffic jam every day, is deserted.

The call for shutdown was issued by Joint Resistance Leadership against the “assault” on state’s special status and “efforts” to abrogate Article 35-A.

Reports of shutdown were received from all districts of the valley.

The Daily Greater Kashmir reported that an unprecedented shutdown is being witnessed in the Baramulla district. The report quoted people saying that they haven’t witnessed such a shut down in the past thirty odd years.

Meanwhile, strict restrictions have been imposed in the Downtown area of the city. Also there is deployments of troops all around the city to prevent people from protesting.
