Kashmir Police refutes allegations of thrashing of policemen by the Army

Srinagar: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain on Saturday refuted all claims of an SHO being beaten up by the Indian Armed Forces.

“All these rumors have been cooked up and are baseless,” SSP Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain, while speaking to the FreePressKashmir, said.

Earlier, a news agency GNS, had reported that army personnel from 41 Rashtriya Rifles caught hold of the policemen following a scuffle and then beat them up.

One of them, Shabir Ahmad ‘munshi’ was beaten severely, they had said. He was later taken to sub district hospital in Kupwara, reports said.

However, denying all reports of a ‘munshi being hospitalised, Hussain said, “Nobody was hospitalised. All those allegations are baseless.”

“There was a minor altercation between the munshi and the army men, after the munshi had gone there to get the seized vehicle of a civilian released,” he added.

Elaborating over the reason for the need for the munshi to appear at the spot, Hussain, while speaking to the FreePressKashmir, said “Apparently, there had been some unruly behaviour on behalf of the Army men towards the civilian, who was asked to step out of the vehicle he was travelling in.”

When asked about the news reports regarding the alleged thrashing of a Station House Officer (SHO), he said, “No, no. No SHO was beaten up.  In fact, there was no SHO present at the spot.”
