Naeem Akhtar rebuts remarks attributed to him by local news gathering agency

Srinagar: Rebutting the statement attributed to him by the local news gathering agency KNS regarding convening of the Special Session of the State Legislature to discuss Article 35-A, the Minister for Works, Naeem Akhtar today said that the news agency has grossly distorted his remarks on the issue.

“While responding to the query of the reporter on the issue, I said that all the political parties in the State are on the same page on the issue of safeguarding Article 35-A and any idea from any quarter is welcome,” said Mr Akhtar, who is also the state government spokesman.

“Unfortunately, the news agency instead of realistically reproducing my statement on the issue has construed on its own and represented it in a completely distorted and twisted manner,” he said and added that such deliberate distortions ironically only end up in denting the credibility of the sources of news.

Earlier it was reported that welcoming the idea of the opposition political parties for convening a special session of the Legislature on discussing Article 35A issue, the government through Akhtar had said that the commitments made with the state by the Centre from time to time will be “respected and maintained”.
