Lashkar militant killed in a brief gunfight in Kulgam

Srinagar: A militant was killed in a brief encounter in a Kulgam village. Police said the slain militant belonged to Lashkar-e-Tioba outfit.

Police and army had swooped on Tantray Pora village in Kulgam where the encounter took place, reported Kashmir Life, a weekly magazine published in Srinagar.

“One militant killed in a gun battle at #Kulgam,” DIG South Kashmir tweeted.

The militant has been identified as Ishfaq Paddar, a local operative of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, wanted for civilian killings. The Indian Army said they recovered an AK 47 from the deceased militant.

Paddar’s killing came within hours after the Lashkar mounted an attack on a police patrol killing a head constable Kishen Lal in city outskirts.

A policeman was killed and seven others injured as militants attacked a police vehicle in the city’s outskirts on Friday, police had said.

Militants had ambushed a vehicle of the state armed police in Zewan area of the city’s outskirts, and ‘opened indiscriminate fire’
