Bandipora: A local court in Bandipora on Monday granted bail to Tahir Hussain Mir, a Journalism student booked under Public Safety Act (PSA), in two cases and passed order for his immediate release.

According to a local news gathering agency, KNS, Judicial Magistrate Bandipora granted bail to 24-year-old Tahir, into Fir number of 84/2016 and 87/2016 under section 307,188,148,149,336,332,353,427 sections of RPC (Ranbir Penal Code) and ordered his immediate release.

Tahir was arrested in September 2016 and was accused of “disrupting law and order and indulging in stone pelting”.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed his detention order under PSA and ordered government to release him forthwith from the preventive custody, KNS reported.

Son of a late police constable, Tahir was first lodged in Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and was then shifted to Central Jail Srinagar for his exams on the orders of the court.

Tahir’s handcuffed photographs went viral on social networking sites some months ago as he was being brought to appear for his first semester examinations, the report said.

Tahir has 13 FIRs registered against him in Bandipora. He’s also been booked under PSA for his alleged involvement in stone throwing incidents, and for “disturbing law and order” in Bandipora district.

State’s education minister Altaf Bukhari also intervened to release about 12 students of various schools and colleges who were detained by the police following their participation in student protests in Sopore town.

According to KNS family members of Tahir have appealed to the Education Minister and D.G Police of the state to release him on priority as he has suffered a lot and have already missed two semesters of his academic career.
