Kulgam rape and abduction: Court rejects bail pleas of six accused

Kulgam: The District Court in Kulgam has rejected the bail application of six persons, including two women, accused of abducting and raping two girls on the intervening night of 25/26 July this year.

Among the six accused are two sisters namely Rumy Jan and Amina Banoo, daughters of Abdul Aziz, residents of Kulgam district. The four male accused are Majeebu-Rehman Sofia alias Faheem Sofi, son of Rehman Sofia, Shabir Rather son of Ahad Rather, Touseef Zargar son of Abid Hussain Zargar, Sameer Malik son of Sikandar Malik, all residents of Kulgam.

The four accused, with the help of two co-accused sisters, allegedly kidnapped and raped two girls and later on left them near Ziarat Shareef Kulgam.

The Police had accordingly filed a case vide number 108/17 under section 363,342,376,109 of RPC and arrested the accused.

The court after perusal of record and keen deliberation of arguments put forward by the SPO and Advocate Zaffar Wani who appeared as amicus curiae (an impartial adviser to a court of law in a particular case) rejected the bail pleas of all the accused.

The court said that the accused could not be granted bail in the interest of society and their release will be detrimental to whole society.
