“Despite tough times, police trying hard to bring normalcy in valley”
Srinagar: Stating that people of Kashmir deserve a life without violence, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief S P Vaid said that despite facing tough times, the state police is trying hard to bring normalcy in the valley.
The DGP also said that the police is counseling the “misguided” valley youth to prevent them from indulging in unlawful activities.
KNS reported on Saturday that the DGP said that over the years the police has face tough times to deal with the militants and while maintaining law and order in the valley.
“Despite the challenges, our men are continuously doing good work to bring normalcy in the valley,” the DGP said and added that common people of Kashmir deserve a life without violence.
According to the KNS report, the DGP said that the Jammu and Kashmir police have been at the forefront in dealing with militants like other armed forces and many have sacrificed their lives to bring normalcy in the valley.
The DGP further said that police is trying its best to change the minds of misguided youth.
“It is also the responsibility of the parents and society to guide their children.”
“We are identifying the children vulnerable to inimical propaganda and started counseling them so that these kids do not indulge in any unlawful activity,” Vaid said.
Meanwhile according to the figures of the State Home Department, 3398 forces personnel were killed by militants between 2001 to January 2017. The number of forces personnel killed has dropped from 613 in 2001 to 39 in 2015.
The JK Police suffered 629 casualties, (128) in 2001, (91) 2002, and (17) in 2016. This year too, the state police suffered many casualties.
The Army has suffered highest casualties with 1693 personnel being killed between 2001 and January 2017, comprised (309) in 2001, (240) 2002 and (46) in 2016. Besides, 409 SPOs were also killed in 15 years.
305 BSF personnel were killed in these years, followed by the CRPF (228), VDCs (96) ITBP (15), SSB (8). The others who suffered casualties are ITBP, BECON, IB and the CISF.
During 2002, 539 security personnel were killed and the number dropped to 384, 330 and 244 during 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively. During 2015, the security forces suffered 39 casualties but the number rose to 84 in 2016 when the militants intensified attacks on forces in the valley.
