Srinagar: Florie Jan of Nepora Anantnag had received bullet injuries in her neck. Ultimately, she received a spinal injury which later resulted in paraplegia.
According to doctors, her degree of disability is 80 percent which means she would never stand on her legs and has to remain dependent throughout her life.
While hearing the case titled Ghulam Mohammad Bhat F/O Florie Jan R/O Nepora Anantnag in which complainant’s daughter at the age of 13/14 years received bullet injuries in her neck, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Chairman Bilal Nazki observed, “…..on the face of it, attitude of the government is inhuman and barbaric. A young girl became permanently disabled and cannot stand on her legs because of injury sustained by firing of an unknown gunman.”
“She has been given a compensation of Rs. 25000 for which she cannot even get a good wheel-chair. The government has shown its inventiveness towards the plight of this young girl by refusing to accept the recommendation of the Commission of paying an amount of Rs one lakh,” he observed.
According to doctors’ certificate, her degree of disability is 80 percent which in practical terms meant that would never stand on her legs and has to remain dependent throughout her life. Her chances of marriage are almost zero, as was listed before justice Bilal Nazki.
Nazki, while hearing the case, viewed the matter seriously and directed the Commissioner Secretary Home Department to file a detailed report in the matter by or before 01-11-2017.
And has also directed the office to send order dated 19-09-2017 passed in the case to Principal Secretary to Chief Minister.
