LoC (Kashmir): Heavy shelling by Indian and Pakistani soldiers on the Line of Control (LoC) has resulted in one civilian death and injuries to at least eight others, according to media reports from the two countries.
In a report published in Dawn, Pakistani officials have said that one civilian was killed while six others were injured in heavy shelling across the Line of Control by Indian troops on Wednesday.
While according to a report by PTI, two civilians were injured on Wednesday as the Pakistan Army today targeted forward posts and villages along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir with mortars and small arms fire.
According to Dawn, a shell landed in the courtyard of a house in Balakot village, leaving 25-year-old Malick Mohammad Razaq dead on the spot, Waleed Anwar, assistant commissioner of the area, said.
“The shelling began at 7:15am and is still going on,” he told DawnNews. “[The shelling] is heavy; it has restricted people indoors.”
While PTI in its report quoted an Indian Army spokesman saying, “Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 0815 hours in Poonch and Bhimbher Gali sectors along the Line of Control (LoC).”
Pakistani troops also targeted dozens of villages in LoC in Bhimbher Gali, Balakote, Shahpur and Poonch with mortar shells and automatic weapons, leaving two civilians injured, the PTI report added.
The injured by the Pakistan Army firing have been identified as 55-year-old Sham Akhtar and 28-year-old Raza Ahmed, reported the PTI.
According to Dawn, Irum Bibi, sister of the deceased, Malick Mohammad Razaq, was injured after a shrapnel hit her in the face. While a 45-year-old woman from the same village, Ghulam Fatima, was also injured.
Kulsoom Bibi, 45, a resident of Oli Panjini village and 13-year-old Ahsan Karim from the Datot Patochi village, suffered wounds as well. A 40-year-old woman from the Pir Klanjar village, Kalsoom and a resident of Mithrani village Nasreen Akhtar, 35 were also injured in the cross-border shelling, the Dawn reported.
