Srinagar: A soldier of the Border Security Force (BSF) was shot dead allegedly by militants on Wednesday evening.
The gunmen opened fire at his family too, injuring four of them including a woman relative. Constable Mohammad Ramzan Parray, 31, died on the spot.
The incident happened at Parray Mohalla Hajin. His father namely Ghulam Ahmad, his brothers Mumtaz and Javaid and his aunt Habba Begum were injured in the attack.
The BSF constable was deployed with the border-guarding force’s 73rd battalion and had come home in Bandipora district on a vacation a few days earlier. Md Ramzan had joined the force six years ago.
“When the terrorists barged into Constable Md Ramzan’s house on Wednesday evening to take him away, he and his family resisted. According to reports, they dragged him out of the house and when it became clear that they wouldn’t be able to take him away, they opened fire,” a report in NDTV, a news channel based in India, said.

Nitish Kumar, who heads the police in north Kashmir, tweeted that the four of Md Ramzan’s family members were also “critically injured”.

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his condolences on twitter. He condemned the incident calling it “abominable”.

The Indian Armed forces on Thursday launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Shahgund and Gund Boon villages of Bandipora district in north Kashmir.
