Srinagar: Personalities like Doctor Qazi Meraj ud din are born once in centuries, a press statement from Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) said.

He was a brave freedom fighter whose absence will always be felt. This was stated by various speakers while paying tributes to late Doctor Sahib in a condolence meeting at his residence Nigeen today.

The condolence meeting was presided over by his son Doctor Qazi Tariq and many dignitaries including JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik , professor Abdul Rehman Wani, Moulana Khurshid Qanoongo, Shabir Ahmd Dar (Muslim conference), Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Siraj ud din Qadri, Sheikh Abdul Rashid and Javed Ahmad Mir addressed the gathering.

While speaking on the occasion, JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, said that ‘doctor sahib’ was a philanthropist who always cared for the poor, the needy and the destitute. “He was a JKLF ideologue, great freedom fighter and physician and his demise has actually marked an end to a golden page of our resistance and freedom struggle,” the statement said.

Terming late doctor sahib as a most humble soul, a selfless human, an ideologue, a great freedom fighter, a great patriot, an intellectual and a symbol of struggle and sacrifices, Malik said that the late Doctor was wedded with freedom struggle and despite his deteriorating health, always stood firm with his ideology and struggle.

He said that “Doctor Sahib was an architect of 1990 people’s revolution and it was he and other selfless people like him who defended resistance with all zeal and enthusiasm.”

“He had to bear incarcerations, attacks on his life, exile, torture and interrogations and incarcerations during that time but he never budged before tyranny and oppression and remained firm till his last breath,” Malik added.

Other speakers on the occasion also recalled the virtues of the late Doctor and termed him as a romantic revolutionary who will always be remembered.
