Locals allege vandalism, police deny clashes took place

Srinagar: Reports of clashes between Kashmiri youth and the Forces in the downtown area of Srinagar started emerging after the Friday prayers were offered in the city.

The locals of the area, while speaking to the Free Press Kashmir said that the Jammu Kashmir police lathi charged the civilians and beat them up.

“Soon after the prayers were over, clashes erupted and the forces resorted to thrashing the civilians,” a local said.

However, the Munshi at police station Nowhatta denied that any clashes had taken place at all.

“There were no clashes at all,” he said, while speaking to the FreePressKashmir. 

The locals further alleged that the police vandalised their property, and threw their things out on the road.

According to a report in the Greater Kashmir, A youth was critically injured in clashes that erupted after Friday prayers in Downtown Srinagar. Greater Kashmir is a newspaper based in Srinagar.

Further reports said that the forces resorted to teargas shelling and pellet firing to break up the protests.

A youth hit by pellets was shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment, according to the report.
