Yasin Malik arrested ahead of 10th Muharram

Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik has been arrested by the police on Friday ahead of 10th Muharram and immediately shifted to central jail Srinagar on a judicial remand.

The Jammu Kashmir police on Friday morning raided the office of JKLF at Abi Guzar and arrested JKLF chairman along with JKLF zonal organizer Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri. Both were immediately shifted to central jail Srinagar on a 4 day judicial remand, a statement from JKLF said.

Before his arrest, JKLF chairman talked to media persons present outside JKLF office and said that Kashmir has been turned into a ‘military garrison’ where every human and democratic right of people has been snapped and snatched by the ‘occupational authorities’.

Malik said that from 1985, to promote unity and harmony among Muslims, he along with other youth in resistance have been participating in Ashura programs.

“Our participation in such programs has always been helpful and appreciated by every sane person of the society but it is the so-called rulers and their police that gets unnerved by unity and harmony among Kashmiri Muslims and from last some years I am being arrested and put behind bars on this occasion, said Yasin Malik who was scheduled to participate in Aashura programs at Maisuma and Zadibal on 9th and 10th Muharram,” he said.
