Restrictions imposed in city to prevent Muharram procession

Srinagar: State authorities on Saturday imposed restrictions in many parts of the summer capital Srinagar to prevent a Muharram procession.

The police cited that they have ‘intelligence inputs that miscreants might try to incite trouble during the procession.’

“Keeping these inputs in mind, the District Magistrate Srinagar ordered the restrictions under section 144 CrPc to remain in force,” police officials said.

Concertina wires were laid on the roads at various places to restrict vehicular movement.
Heavy contingents of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in full riot gear have been deployed in the city.

The procession is traditionally carried out by the Shia Muslims on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram falling on October 1.

The officials informed that the restrictions will remain in force until Sunday
