MLA Er Rashid appears before NIA

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir independent legislator and Awami Itihad Party (AIP) chairman, Engineer Rashid on Tuesday appeared before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with its ongoing probe into a funding case.

NIA officials said that Rashid, who represents North Kashmir’s Langate assembly constituency, arrived at the agency headquarters in Delhi at around 10.30 a.m.

Er Rashid had been summoned on September 28 and asked to present himself before the investigating agency on October 3rd. This is the first time an MLA from J&K has been summoned by the NIA.

The agency is investigating the alleged “terror funding” case involving pro-freedom leaders, local businessmen and others.

The sleuths from the NIA have already arrested a political leader, a photojournalist and a student activist among others on charges ranging from waging war against India to being involved in stone-pelting and inciting others to do the same.

They have also summoned trade leaders, relatives of other pro-freedom leaders and an advocate, who is also president of Kashmir High Court Bar Association.
