Kashmiri athlete to run 110 kms in bid to create a record

Srinagar: Hamid Aziz, one of the top athletes from Kashmir, will run 110 kilomters on Sunday aiming to set a one day run record for the state.

Aziz has recently participated in 59th Senior National Championship in July this year in Andra Pradesh.

Hamid has already covered 60 kilometers in a single day with the Australian marathon runner Pat Farmer who concluded his Pan India great marathon in Srinagar on March 27, 2017.

Besides, he has won the state championship in 2013.

Earlier in his college, he won all the inter-college road races and retained the title during hi sunder-graduate studies.

His latest achievement has been the participation in the India Expedition Adventure Race which was held in Srinagar, Sonamarg and Leh.

His acumen for long runs has promoted him to set out for his personal best of running over 100 kilomters which is scheduled for October 22.

Hotel Shahenshah Palace in Srinagar and Hotel Snowland in Sonamarg has already come out in support for the athlete who have sponsored the event.

The event will be flagged off from Hotel Shahenshah Palace Srinagar. Hamid will run towards Sonamarg and then Baltal to complete 110 kilometer run.

“I am hopeful of completing the run in 10 hours. It won’t be a difficult task for me. I have already run 60 km in 2015 and also this year with foreign teams at Leh. I want to record my personal best,” said Aziz.

Aziz plans to run 400 km in Spring 2018 and 1000 kilomters in 2019 to ultimately aim for Kashmir to Kanyakumari run in five years of time.
