Jammu Chamber rebuts Mufti Nasir’s statement regarding safeguarding Article 35A

Srinagar: The Jammu Chamber has expressed shock and anguish over the statement of Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam over his statement that over a dozen groups in Jammu including the chamber have been convinced for protecting the special status of the state.

Mufti Nasir in a press conference on Thursday had said, “The groups we met are against dividing the state on the lines of religion and region. They don’t want any tinkering with Article 35A. These organizations include Gaw Raksha Committee, Dogra Saddar Sabha Jammu, Jammu Muslim Front, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries and others.”

In reaction, the Jammu Chamber in a statement said, ” While it was a pleasure welcoming you to our office in Jammu alongwith other dignitaries whom we assumed are concerned about the overall development, peace and prosperity of our state but today we feel shocked and anguished after going through an article “ Several Jammu groups support Article 35-A: Civil Society Panel” published in Greater Kashmir wherein your good self has used the words “ Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that almost a dozen groups in Jammu have been convinced for protecting the special status of the state”. Please note that discussing some things does not in any way justify your claim of saying that Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry is convinced on Article 35-A.”

JCCI added in the statement that as the matter is subjudice, everyone must wait for the judgment of the Supreme Court rather than taking political mileage.

“Time and again before the media and also the stand of JCCI has been that we repose utmost faith in the Supreme Court of India and this issue being subjudice, we all must wait for the final pronouncement of judgment rather than acting politically. We would like to advise you that we all together must work towards bringing peace, development and addressing human issues rather than trying to take political mileage out of Civil Society meetings,” the statement added.
