Resistance Leadership calls for shutdown on Nov 27 against mistreatment of Kashmiri prisoners in Indian Jails

Srinagar: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) Wednesday alleged that authorities have been ‘mis-treating’ Kashmiri prisoners in different jails and has appealed people to observe a complete shutdown against it on November 27.

Addressing a joint press conference in Abi Guzar on Wednesday, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik asked people to observe Nov 27 as “black day”.

Police foiled a march led by resistance leaders and detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik along with other activists.

Reports said that shortly after addressing a joint press conference in Abi Guzar, Joint Resistance leadership Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik tried to take out a march.

When amid pro-freedom slogans people led by these two leaders tried to march towards city centre Lal Chowk, police detained both the leaders and dozens of other activists. They were lodged at Police Station Kothibagh.

Meanwhile, Joint Resistance Leadership issued a handout stating that Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq arrived at JKLF office Abi Guzar and afterwards along with JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik went to nearby Masjid. The JRL leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik addressed people at the Masjid. Geelani addressed the public telephonically.

After this JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and Doctor Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq addressed a joint press conference outside JKLF offices.

The Police arrested dozens of leaders and activists including Mirwaiz doctor Muhammad Umer Farooq, Haji Mohammad Yasin Malik, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mukhtar Ahmed Sofi, Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Mohammad Yasin Butt, Hilal Ahmed War, Mohammad Yasin Ataee, Zahoor Ahmed Butt, Muhammad Sideeq Shah, Farooq Ahmad Sodagar, Nisar hussain rather, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Rameez Raja, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Muhammad Ashraf Changa, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Zahoor Ahmad, Meraj ud din Paray, Farooq Ahmad sheikh, Umer Aadil Dar, Shahid ur Rehman.
