A fire which broke out in the revered Khanqah-e-Moula shrine damaged it’s roof and spire partially. The fire, reports said, was caused by short-circuit. Khanqah e maula is built in memory of renowned saint Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA).
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti this morning rushed to Srinagar and visited the shrine of Hazrat Amir E Kabeer Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (R.A.) which has suffered some damages in a fire incident the previous night.
Cancelling all her engagements, Mehbooba Mufti air dashed to Srinagar early morning and straight away drove to the shrine of saint in the Shahr E Khaas.
The Chief Minister went round various areas of the shrine complex to assess the quantum of damage. She sought a detailed appraisal from the local administration regarding the fire incident.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also paid the partially burnt building a visit.
In the recent history, the burning of Chrar E Shareef Shrine, Hazratbal Dargah, and more recently the fire at Dastageer Saheb Shrine has failed to wake the authorities from their slumber.
The shrines, which are decorated with intricate wood work, lack basic fire precautions, and with large number of people visiting them, is a disaster waiting to happen.
The shrines have been used as a political platform across the political divide, but basic maintenance and precautions at these heritage structures remains in the kitty of non regulated Shrine boards.
