Valley’s carpet manufacturing industry form a stakeholders’ group

Srinagar: Following the direction of the state Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu for reviving carpet manufacturing industry in the state, the stakeholders on Friday formed a broad-based group which will holds its first meeting on Saturday.

The group will provide recommendation for formulation of a comprehensive package for the carpet manufacturing industry.

The group comprises of Rashid din Ahangar as Assistant Vice president and will be a stakeholder from JK Bank, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Assistant Director Handicrafts Industries and Commerce, Mukhtar Ahmad Wani (Administration) Indian Institute of Carpet Technology Srinagar, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, All Kashmir Carpet Manufacturers and Traders Association and Farooq Ahmad Shah All Kashmir Carpet Manufacturers and Traders Association.

The group’s mandate shall be to study problems faced by the carpet manufacturing industry, identify issues at hand and recommend the remedial measures to the government so that a compensation package is formulated for the sector.

The decision follows after the businessmen recently held a conclave with chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and Finance Minister Drabu where several issues of industrialists were flagged off and discussed during the conclave.
