Two more militants return home in south Kashmir: DGP

Police on Monday said that two more militants have shunned militancy and returned home in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Two more boys shunned the path of violence and returned home who went astray and joined the ranks of militants. Welcome back home!” tweeted Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid.

The militants, according to reports, hailed from Hawoora and Sangam areas of south Kashmir. “A Chinese pistol was recovered from their possession,” the Police said.

However, sources said that those detained were not listed militants and were apprehended by the forces.

“They were apprehended from Maternity and Children’s Hospital Sherbagh Anantnag along with a pistol,” they said.

Earlier the DGP has said that “The militants are our own children. I request their mothers to persuade them to return to the families. Few days back, we treated an injured militant with affection and we want these militants to shun the path of violence.”

Meanwhile, days after footballer Majid Khan of Anantnag district returned home after he had joined Lashkar-e-Toiba, another youth from South Kashmir has shunned militancy and returned to his family.

Last week reports said that Naseer Ahmed of Chimmar village of Kulgam district contacted his family and wished to return back. He had reportedly joined militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen a month ago.

SSP Kulgam said that the youth had disappeared from his village in last week of September. A missing report about his disappearance still stands registered in Damhal Hanjipora police station.

Inspector General of Police Munir Khan had said that Nisar has neither surrendered nor apprehended. He said the youth contacted his family and wished to come back.
