Srinagar: State Human Rights Commission Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report about the killing of a Taxi Driver Asif Iqbal.

Asif Iqbal, a resident of Thandipora Kupwara was killed by Army in an ambush a couple of days back. Army had said that the deceased was asked to stop, however, he didn’t respond to the warning.

“A couple of years back, army killed a sixty years old beggar Sanaullah Bhat, labelling him as a non-local militant. Probe was ordered into that killing as well, but it was not made public,” the petition reads.

The petition further reads that if Army claims that there was an ambush, why it had not informed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara in advance.

Acting upon the petition, Chairman SHRC directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report in this regard by or before February 15, 2018.
