AMU suspends Mannan as police starts looking for him

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that they have started looking for Mannan Wani, a research scholar of Aligarh Mulsim University who has reportedly joined the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.

Picture of Wani holding an automatic rifle went viral on social media indicating that he had joined militant ranks.

Wani was perusing a doctorate in Geology and has been suspended by the university after his picture with a gun went viral.

The Police has said that they are trying to locate him and persuade him to return to his home.

“He was scheduled to return home four days back. But instead his pictures showing him with an AK-47 reached the family,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, according to a report by the FirstPost, the Uttar Pradesh police has raided that university campus to carry on further investigations.
