SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir police have appealed to people not to pay any heed to rumours, being spread by some vested interest.
A police spokesman said here this afternoon that some people were trying to vitiate the atmosphere by spreading rumours on social networking sites.
People were requested not to give any heed to such posts, he said. In the past, authorities were snapping internet services on mobiles phones and through dongles to curb the rumours.
However, this time they decided to continue the service as it was affecting media, professionals, doctors and students most.
The SMS service on pre-paid mobiles and news bulletins on local cable channels were banned since 2010 when large-scale violence claimed more than 120 lives allegedly in firing by security forces and state police.
