SRINAGAR: Rejecting Bhartiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narender Modi’s allegations that people in border areas in Ladakh are using Chinese SIM cards, Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh Gurmet Dorje said there is absolutely no truth in it.
He said allegations of Mr Modi at Jammu during a public meeting that China has distributed SIM cards and mobile phones to people living along the border in Ladakh region are unfounded and far from truth.
This is only to malign the people of Ladakh who are more patriotic than Modi or any other BJP leader, Mr Dorje said.
He said people were using SIM cards of different mobile companies in India, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. However, there were Chinese phones which were available in other parts of the country, including Delhi and Gujarat.
Demanding an apology from Mr Modi, the EC said, “we strongly condemned him (Modi) for his remarks that no national flag was also being hoisted in these areas,” he said.
Mr Dorje said national flag is also being hoisted at all places, including Army and ITBP locations at Demjok, Chushul and Chumoor.
Special functions are being organised on Republic Days, despite below freezing temperature and Independence Days.
“We strongly condemned and reject this false propogands of Modi who only wanted to divide the people of the country,” he said.
Mr Dorge said it was unfortunate that Mr Modi has issued this false statement without even trying to get details on the ground.
“We demand an apology from Modi and urge him to desist from issuing such false statements,” Mr Dorje said.
