SRINAGAR, June 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained its three Intelligence sleuths for alleged links with militants. The expose has brought several policemen under the scanner and the force is probing their possible role in militant activities.

Though the police have not formally filed a case against the arrested cops, they have been detained for questioning.

“We have detained three persons on suspicion. We suspect they may have links with the militants,’’ a senior police officer told The Indian Express.

“We are trying to establish whether it is an isolated incident or a larger network. We may question more people whose names have come up.”

Though this is not for the first time that the J-K Police have picked up their own men for alleged links with militants, sources reveal that these arrests are important because one among the men was previously involved in an assignment to sneak into the militant ranks for intelligence gathering purposes.

They say a selection grade constable from J-K Police’s intelligence wing was picked up after the police found that he was in touch with a militant identified as Shabir Ahmad of Hayan village in Tral. The constable gave the names of two more policemen who were subsequently picked up.
